Hand Pain Relief Tips for Hairstylists

Help and relief are on the way! We hope these tips bring you instant comfort and clarity.

  1.See a Doctor

If you’re experiencing chronic hand pain, numbness or any sharp and shooting pains, we advise you to see your primary care doctor. Not only can they help you find relief through physical therapy, antibiotics or other remedies, but they may also be able to pinpoint exactly what’s causing the pain and how to stop it permanently. Seeing a doctor will also give you the opportunity to identify any chronic health issues with your hands, which are critical to uncovering early to begin treatment to stop the condition from worsening.

  2.Go for a Massage

Your hand may be feeling tight from handling hair salon supplies all day and you may just need a massage to work out any soreness or stiffness. Hand massages can be a great relief and comfort for someone who is experiencing pain.

  3.Sleep in a Wrist Brace

It’s important to consult your doctor about which braces are best for your type of hand pain, but if your wrists and hands are tired from working all day, it could be beneficial to sleep in wrist braces. When we sleep, we may not notice that we are lying on our wrists or sleeping in positions that can cause further pain. With wrist braces, they ensure that your wrists and hands stay stable, which can promote healing and reduce pain.

4.Invest in Tools and Equipment That Work Best for You

If you are experiencing hand pain because you think the tools you are using could be too heavy or hard to hold, it may be time to look into a lighter blow dryer, straightener, curler or pair of shears. The equipment you use could have a significant impact on the way you’re feeling, especially if you decide to start using tools with more ergonomic features.
