Are your clients craving a warm chocolatey color that seamlessly weaves in dimension and intertwines luxurious red and brown hues? If so, we are going to show you just how to achieve this stunning look on your clients.

Red and brown pair perfectly together to create a fiery chocolate look that complements any skin tone really well, which explains why this is such a popular color.

What Does Chocolate Red Hair Look Like?

Similar to every other hair color, chocolate red hair can come out looking in many different ways. The final pigment depends largely on the client’s hair color, texture and length, as well as the techniques and products the stylist uses to color the hair. Typically, chocolate red hair will be a very warm hue and can incorporate more red hues or more brown tones — depending on the client’s preference. Not only is this style rich and gorgeous looking, but marrying brown and red can help keep the color lasting a lot longer, requiring fewer touch-ups and maintenance.

Chocolate Red Hair Styles

Since there are so many different interpretations of the chocolate red hairstyle, here are some of our favorite ways to achieve the look for your clients.

Chocolate with Red Highlights

For clients who want to keep their natural chocolatey hue, but want to incorporate red in a subtle way, you can paint in red pieces to give them a natural painted look.

Deep Red and Chocolate

For clients who want deep and dark red and chocolate tones, you can go with a medium brown chocolate red color. You can deepen these tones with darker brown or red colors, depending on which color the client wants to lean toward more.

Super Red

For clients who want fiery red hair with less maintenance and longer-lasting hues, try working medium or dark brown color into the red to make it last longer. You can still give your client vibrant red without the hassle of it fading too quickly.

Red Ombre

The red ombre trend will be around forever because it’s truly a stunning look. For clients who want to maintain darker, brown roots, you can do a dark or medium brown shadow root while painting in more red toward the bottom of the hair. You can create more drama with this look the darker you go.

Melted Red Chocolate

For a look that’s more melty and blended, try melting red and brown together to create a look that’s multi-dimensional and rich-looking.

Red on Top, Brown on Bottom

If your client wants to go with a bolder red color while still incorporating brown, you can prioritize red on top while coloring the under sections of the hair deep brown. Make sure to melt the two colors together to create a cohesive look.

Auburn Chocolate Locks

If your client isn’t totally sold on incorporating a fiery red color with their brunette locks, then you may want to try adding in auburn lights that will still warm the style up and give the client a chocolatey look. This is a great way to show the client how you can work in warmer tones.

Copper and Brown

Playing with copper and brown tones is also a great way to achieve milk chocolate-looking hair while still incorporating warmer tones that aren’t red. This look is still very luxurious looking. Your client is going to love this look.

Chocolate Red Hair Aftercare Tips

Red fades quickly, which is why it’s so important to educate your clients on how to take care of their hair to retain vibrancy and color after they leave the salon. Here are some tips you can equip them with. Also, don’t forget to start recommending professional hair care products to your clients so that they can keep their styles lasting longer.

  • Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners.
  • Don’t wash your hair until two days after your appointment.
  • Wash your hair less frequently throughout the week.
  • Use cold water when washing and rinsing hair.
  • Keep your hair away from prolonged sun exposure.
  • Use a color-enhancing shampoo, conditioner, glaze or moisturizing mask.

Your clients are going to love their new, gorgeous chocolatey red hair! While chocolate red hair might be high maintenance, it’s so worth it!
